What is the Disclosure and Barring Service

The DBS is a service provided by the Home Office. It allows companies to make safer choices when it comes to employing individuals. The service has replaced the Criminal Records Burea in recent years. It also allows a wide access to individual criminal records for companies. Formed in 2012,DBS Contact Number the DBS operates mainly in Liverpool and Darlington. If you are barred from working by the DBS, it is illegal for you to work in the sector from which you have been barred. If you are an employer and employ someone who is barred from working in your profession, this is also a criminal offence. The CRB was originally formed in 2002 under the Police Act 1997 and came about due to public concern about young children and vulnerable adults.

There are three forms of DBS checks. The process of either three of these is called the DBS certificate. Standard DBS checks are the most requested, and look into the criminal background of a prospective employee. An Enhanced DBS check is for those applying to teach young children or vulnerable adults. This check involved additional work from the police on the individual. The Enhanced with barred lists check is the same as the Enhanced check, however, includes information on whether the individual is barred from working in any other sector.
